Elden Ring is an action role-playing game developed by Fromsoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022.

Elden ring the latest hardcore RPG by Fromsoftware Inc., the same company which made Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro shadow die twice. The game feels very much like Dark Souls except that they took an open world and narrative approach this time. The result was quite successful.

Elden ring is a dark fantasy RPG set in the realm “Lands Between”. Just Like dark souls, the game’s main focus is set on combat. After the destruction of the titular Eldian Ring, the realm is sent to hell, and the shards also known as the “Great Runes’ are scattered around. Players must travel around the realm to find the great runes which will help restore the Elden ring and become the Elden Lord.

After starting the game, players are thrown into the character customization menu which is somewhat similar to Dark souls 3’s customization menu. The classes and leveling systems are fairly simple and similar to Dark souls 3. Players can freely explore the world and exploration is rewarding in this game. This game also features a horse that can be used to cover long distances fast. The world is huge, there are plenty of places to discover like destroyed castles, mountains, and towers. Players can find treasure hunts located in secret caves guarded by dragons, points of interest. As previously mentioned the game will reward you for exploring.

Combat in this game is unlike anything we’ve seen in previous Fromsoftware games. Combat in this game is all about patience and timing. The game will punish you for spamming, panicking, or being greedy. Combat in this game is all about being patient and waiting for the right moment to attack. Mechanically the combat is very similar to dark souls 3. You can fight on foot or horse, with weapons or with spells.

All said though, Elden ring sure has its flaws, including technical issues. The game is poorly optimized for PC. The game has a high ram requirement and it only supports 60 fps. It is also lacking much-needed graphic options. These issues will be sooner fixed by official patches or by the modding community but aside from the technical flaws the game doesn’t have any missing features.

On the graphical side, the game is beautiful. The game features wonderful textures, details, and amazing models. The map and level design are amazing too. The game will also feature ray-tracing which isn’t available on launch but it will be added via a post-launch update.

Verdict

All said though, Elden ring is one of the best fantasy open-world RPGs. It’s a rewarding open-world game full of breathtaking locations and scenery. The game has one of the best monsters to fight and dungeons to explore. Still, the game replicates from FromSoftware’s old formula from a different perspective which has somewhat gotten boring.
