Why Star Wars Releasing A New Game Every Six Months Is Not As Bad As It Sounds

Posted on October 4, 2022October 4, 2022 By AcemanWolf

Since the announcement that Disney intends to push two new Star Wars games every year, everyone has been saying it is the worst thing ever. While I must admit that the idea of poor developers being pushed on such a tight schedule, this plan does have some merits that people aren’t talking about. As such, it seems to be a good idea to discuss all aspects that will emerge with this new plan.

What is the new Star Wars game plan?

The new plan that Disney and Lucas Interactive are currently enacting is that they will be releasing two new Star Wars games a year. The idea is that the two titles will be vastly different. One will be a major triple-a-game and be the main focus for the year. The second game, on the other hand, will be a much smaller affair that will focus on a simpler concept. Disney and Lucas’s Interactive did decline to explain how big the difference between these games would be or how they would come up with topics.

We are already aware of a few games that have been slotted into this new plan. These include the new knights of the old republic game, Jedi: Survivor, and the far distant Star Wars: Eclipse. Many of these games haven’t even gotten official announcements and are untitled. So as you can tell, there may be some hang-ups and mishaps as they try and bring this plan to fruition. This is especially true because Eclipse has been a nightmare for developers since it was announced.

How does this affect the community?

There are two distinct ways that this can affect the Star Wars community and the gaming community in general. One is with the number of games that will be released and the quality that they will have. The other is how this will affect the developers that Disney uses and their future work.

Regarding the number of games, there shouldn’t be a huge difference between fans and players. They will be in different genres and based on different premises, so I don’t think it will be monotonous. This arrangement won’t profoundly affect the developers because they are from different studios. Crunch times could still be an issue, but as long the games are spread out enough, it won’t be an upfront concern, though this is still a problem across the industry.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

In the end, this doesn’t seem like the huge end of Star Wars games that people have been saying it will be. Yes, this will mean that there will be more new Star Wars games on the market, but that’s not new. During the ’80s and 90s, there were a lot, and I mean a lot of Star Wars games, released. Most people weren’t born when that happened today, and there was no internet to talk about it. And if you ask any fans around that time, they say it was one of the best for Star Wars fans.
